Friday Fabrics- Velvet

There is something about the cool fall weather that makes me want velvet furniture.  There's nothing like a jewel toned velvet sofa to make a girl want to snuggle up with a glass of wine and wind down.  Luxurious and effortlessly modern, velvet will never go out of style. This artwork by Julie Blackmon evokes the feeling I get from a velvet sofa - feminine and classic but with a twist.  PS...I want all of her photographs.

Here are some of my favourite examples of how a velvet sofa can really be the star of a room.

If a velvet sofa is good enough for Carrie Bradshaw, it is good enough for me!

If held down and made to pick a favourite shade,  it would be the gorgeous royal that is shown in many of the pictures- love.  When we were purchasing our sofa for the living room, I very nearly selected it in deep blue velvet.

I went back and forth but in the end, selected a fabric called cue charcoal (which in hind sight I might not have picked because it basically pulls the dog hair off of my dog but I digress;) because I thought it worked better with the other fabrics in the room and the pink walls. I love how it looks but still mourn the loss of a rich blue velvet sofa.

I'm not entirely sure why that one cushion on the right looks so massive in this picture but anyhow.
Enjoy your weekend everyone!

  1. love that sofa. What kind of dog do you have? I still remember good ole Briar, who, as a bonus, didn't shed =) We are moving to either Victoria or Calgary. We looked seriously at Ontario, and my hubby had an offer near Niagra on the Lake (which I still remember loving when we went there!) but in the end, it is 1/3 the pay as a job in the oil patch. We love the island, but ultimately, we want to be together as a family which means a move. He now works a week in Alberta, a week home, which was ok at first, but we all miss him to death when he's gone. Sorry for the long comment....probably should have just emailed you =)

  5. Hi Becky,
They are hand painted wallpaper panels by Nama Rococo- I purchased them at a store called Lille a Shop and then framed them myself using IKEA frames.
    Thanks for stopping by!
