Bijou Rooms- a Boy's and a Girl's

This is my bijou boy's room.  I was inspired by the G.P. & J. fabric, which is called Deer- to say I adore it would be a MAJOR understatement; it is so whimsical and the colours make my heart sing. I would use the fabric for window treatments and a throw cushions for the bed. The room was also largely inspired by the Fine Little Day ahoy wallpaper.  When I heard that the paper was designed by an 8 year old, I was instantly smitten- the hand drawings give the backdrop for the room such a charming feel.  The bed is an antique used in an amazing room by Fran Keenan (via decorpad.)  The picture of that room also gave me the idea for the large houndstooth.  I used a rug by Jonathan Adler to bring some whimsy to the floor.  The Eames rocker adds a modern touch to the room and is so practical for kids; practically indestructible.  The artwork in the room includes the amazingly quirky Meadow Friend prints from Serena and Lily; these are so completely endearing- is it crazy that I kind of want them in my living room?  The other artwork is by Sharon Montrose.  These adorable animal photographs are so sweetly modern; again, I would totally put a large one of these prints (with a sleek shiny white frame) in my living room.  The last piece in the room is the very cool pendant light by Perch Zooey;  it can be purchased through 2modern, one of my favourite haunts for children's decor.

So that's my boy's room- I kind of love it but I would...really hope you all like it too!

And here is my bijou girl's room- I envision it for an older girl just starting to find her signature style:)

This room started with the divine pink campain dresser that I found on 1st dibs- that dresser has made me want to run out immediately, find a vintage version, and cover it with glossy bubblegum pink...love!  From there, I selected the Alexander Henry floral fabric (called Blue Bell,) which is a very budget friendly option at only $13/yard at Sew LA.  Because of its price, and amazing colour, I would plaster it everywhere- long thick french pleated curtain panels (on either side of a very large window) and perhaps covering those cute little footstools (vintage- used by Martha Angus- Icons of Design) at the foot of the bed.  The other fabric in the room is also from SewLA; I would use it for additional upholstered pieces in the room and/or pillows. The desk is from West Elm and the gorgeous orange leather side chair is by Modern Chic Home.  The bed is from IKEA and I love how it is a modern take on the traditional 4 poster bed.  The chic macaw lamp is from Peridot; I would put it on top of the parsons desk.  The whimsical giraffe rug is from Jonathan Adler Junior. The charming photograph can be found at Lola's Room on Etsy.  I imagine a girl looking off towards her future, which is such an inspiring image for a girl's room.  The colourful floral above the bed is actually a picture of a vintage enamel necklace by Jennifer Jones; called the Miss Scarlett, this pretty piece might have to come home with me for my little red.  And last, but not least, the completely divine chandelier is from Jean-Marc Fray and I think it is absolutely perfect for the room.  A more budget friendly option could also work- maybe.

So there you have it- my take on a chic boy's and girl's room.  I think the most important thing to remember when designing for children is that they grow and so their rooms should be filled with beautiful finds that grow with them.  As with any room, I feel that true style comes from a mix of high/low and modern/vintage.  In my book, it is this juxtaposition that makes a space interesting to be in.
