I wanted to take a minute and say...
These lovely ladies have bestowed me with this award.
And I'm sorry but until now, I've been a bit of a ...
when it comes to this whole thing.
But, I also think that sometimes, following the rules just make sense.
So...here's my list of 7 things about myself, starting with the personal stuff.
1. My wedding was featured in Canada's national newspaper the Globe and Mail in a series called Catch, Match, Dispatch {i.e. babies, weddings, and deaths.}
My caterer tipped off the newspaper about our 'story' and here's the very condensed version.
I was teaching grade 3 {that's another one, I was a teacher for 11 years} and had a very special student, her name was Natasha. From day one, this girl totally had my heart. She was/is bright, independent, funny and so very self-assured. After a few months in my class, I found out that her mother was very ill and tragically, she passed away mid way through the year. I spent each day after that trying to be the friend and teacher I knew this sweet girl needed. I reached out to her dad and let him know that I would be there in any way I could. Time went by and I found myself increasingly attached to this sweet soul of a girl; we spent countless lunches/recess talking and I think I just became her friend of sorts. After a year her dad invited me to a thank you BBQ- and here's when the story becomes a happy one...2 years later, Natasha's dad and I were married and with Natasha as his 'best kid' we became a big happy family. A year after that, I legally adopted Natasha and since then we have added 2 more little loveballs making us a very blessed family of 5. This single event was most certainly the turning point of my life. 6 years ago I was a single girl living in the city with my dog and now I'm a mother of 3 and couldn't be happier.
And now with that serious tid-bit out of the way, here's the frivolous stuff.
2. I'm happy this award calls for 7 things because I love 7's- I actually have a bit of a thing for numbers {I can remember every phone number I've ever had and almost always wish at 11:11} and have ones I like and don't like. I was born on the 7th month of the 7th day and weighed 7 pounds and 7 ounces so I figure, 7's must be lucky.
3. My material must haves for a happy life include: pink, an Internet connection, wine (and it has to be in a good glass,) chocolate, cheese, bread (with butter not oil,) mint chocolate chip ice cream, olives, corriander, coffee (born and raised on instant and shoot me, I prefer it,) TV, books (my two favourites are Love in the Time of Cholera and Valley of the Dolls,) fabric/furniture/clothes/decor stores, blogs, a good climate with all 4 seasons, a hot bath (I have one every night,) a house that I love that's filled with pretty things to look at, jewelry (specifically diamonds, gold, rings and bracelets;) cute coats/purses/clothes/shoes, art, paper to doodle on.
4. My dirty little secret involves my home. If you were to walk in, you'd see most things in place and the rooms looking pretty put together but here comes the secret, I could care less about unseen spaces. My closets, drawers and dressers are uniformly a mess. I don't know what it is but I could give a hoot about things you can't see so if there's something sitting on the counter (which makes me crazy) I just open a drawer and chuck it in. I'm working on this one though and would love a little more organization in my life so we'll see.
5. If there was such a thing as a job for someone who loves to search for things on the Internet it should/would be mine. I love the hunt. When I was planning my wedding, it was all things wedding. When I was having my kids, it was all things baby names/baby care and now, its all things design. I just love searching for things and researching online- seriously, if I could get paid just for this, I'd be rich. I never tire of it and get a thrill every time I find the perfect item/image/must have/name/product/fabric/anything.
6. I was born in Vancouver and lived there a few times over the course of my life but for me, my heart is and will always be in Prince Edward Island. I have spent every summer there since birth and it's just a magical place for me.
7. I think I must be a hopeless romantic (and very nearly ended up as a wedding planner) because I seriously have a permagrin on even when I'm watching the stupid Bachelor..which also reminds me of another, I love cheesy reality tv- can't help it.
I think that pretty much sums it up.
Oh and a little extra one because I just ran the spellcheck, I have no idea how I was a teacher because I am the world's WORST speller.
And now on to the good/hard stuff.
I'm suppsed to pass submit a list of blogs I love and honestly, I think was/is the part that made me kind of hesitate about the whole thing.
I just hate picking favourites and there's like a billion blogs I love.
Anyhow...I need to suck it up and just pick some so here are a few of my favourites at the moment.
The Alternative Wife
Simply Seductive
Brown Eyed Belle
The Nero Chronicles

...to every reader who takes the time to read this little blog of mine.
Kisses to all of you!
This post is rocking my heels off too. It was so good that i didn't immediately scroll to the bottom to see who was on your list ;)
ReplyDeleteThe story of how you met your family just left me with a sweet peace. And a confession, most of my hidden spacea are a complete mess too :)
So so honored to be among your favorites. May sound silly but it means so much :)
Christine, this is jawdroppingly amazing post -- it truly is.
ReplyDeleteYou're such a sport to have begrudgingly played along (as we all did, I think -- she winks!). I've discovered so many beautiful things about your soul I suspected all along in these lines.
What a story you have, what a blessing.
And how funny to hear the PEI connection. I was so obsessed with all things "Anne of Green Gables" as a kid that I twisted my parents arm until they actually (would you believe it?) agreed to travel to PEI to visit Lucy Maud Montgomery's home. It was unforgettable, what a beautiful place.
Thanks for adding me to your list ;) I think I'm pretty burned out on 7 things about me, so my one post will have to do, but I appreciate it all the same.
Have a nice weekend, Alcira

Crazy things good and bad happen for me on 7's too.
Thanks for sharing lovely.
xo
Congratulations on your award! I'm going to check these blogs out right now. Kori xoxo
ReplyDeleteYour story about the best kid is beyond touching. I swear I teared up. And what do you know, I was raised on instant coffee too and most coffee drinkers think I'm nuts for still preferring the "fake stuff".
ReplyDeleteAnd your whole 7's thing is pretty crazy cool.
This story of yours is such a good read, I loved it! Your so honest, such an inspiration and this award worthy. How you met your husband is like a fairytale, good material for a moviescript. Thanks for sharing this:)
ReplyDeleteYou officially made me tear up reading a design blog. Christine, that is just the most special story. Natasha is so lucky to have you in her life, and you hers. Who would've thought a little design blog award would be so special, for you and yours readers.
ReplyDeleteAnd as for the award for TTS, thank you thank you thank you. As Chassity said, it seems silly, but it does mean so much. xo
Beautiful post!!! You do indeed have a lovely story about your wedding :)
ReplyDeleteBest wishes!
The story on how you met your husband is so sweet.
ReplyDeleteAlso, i'm a secret mess too!! My drawers are a complete disaster, but everything on top of my dresser is a pretty little pile of perfection. Too funny!
I loovveed reading your 7 things. Of course #1 stole my heart - you are all so blessed to have found each other. #5 I also love to hunt for things on the internet especially images. I 'google' everything, it's just so much fun! Thanks for playing along, I really enjoyed getting to 'know' you better through it :)
ReplyDeletewhat a wonderful story (#1) it seems like it was all meant to be! congratulations on the award and thanks for sharing those 7 (+) things. xoxo jcd

ReplyDeleteThe story of how you met your husband is so sweet! Sorry to hear about Natasha and your husbands loss though. AND we have the same birthday! July 7, yay!
ReplyDeleteLOVED reading this! congrats on the award, and thanks so much for sharing your fun facts :)
ReplyDeleteAww thanks hun!
ReplyDeleteI tend to break the award rules too:-) However, i'm happy you decided to follow the rules today-it was great reading this and learning more about you! Congrats on the award too-well deserved!!! XX
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet story about how your lovely family came to be. And my closets are messy, too, and I couldn't care less!
ReplyDeleteCristine, I read every word!... thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun read!! You write beautifully and your story is fascinating. Your facts were fun and easy to relate to (messy drawers (I don't know that anyone has organised drawers!), reality tv, internet searching obsession, PEI)
ReplyDeleteTotally get the PEI connection! Lived in Montreal all my life but spent all my summers in NB right accross from the ferry (not a bridge back then!) and spent a lot of time in PEI. I was madly obsessed with Ann of GG one summer after visiting her house and insisted on wearing this heavy AOGG costume dress everyday for the rest of the summer! I had even bought her a present that I left on her bed because I was convinced she still lived there.. Wonder what they did with it!
Anyway Congrats!
Beautiful story about how you met your soulmate!!! You have an awesome blog, love it and it was super easy to nominate you!!
ReplyDeleteHey I noticed your birthday, does that make you a cancer? Just asking because I am one!!
this blog has been my favorite ever since i found it a few months ago (i mean my FAVORITE of all the design blogs i read), and now, reading the first item in this post, i just think it / you are infinitely more amazing.
ReplyDelete(and this comes from someone who works in public K-12 education and does interior design as a hobby on the side, so i am serious when i say this make me love you and your blog infinitely more.)
Aww. I normally cannot stand awards but I actually like this one! Thank you. I may even follow the rules and post about it. But only maybe :) Ha.
ReplyDeletePS - I ALWAYS say that I would wallpaper everything if I could. I would also store everything in mason jars. But I (sort of) do that already.
Thank you so much for sharing so much of yourself :) I love the story of how you came to be the mother of three, wow! I am with you in the surface organization...whenever anyone comes to visit, they'd never know what would terror would encounter them if they opened our closet! haha. Congrats on the award--very well-deserved! xoxo {av}
ReplyDeleteP.S. Can't wait to see your Friday's Fancies :)

ReplyDeleteAwh thank you, sweetie! Totally cheered me up :) And I loved getting to know more about you. Have a wonderful weekend! xoxo
ReplyDeleteChristine,

It is funny how life works out. You were destined to be in your daughter's life! What a difference you have made for her.
