My House...Some Pictures and 20 Questions

Good Monday morning all.

I've got some pictures of my living room and foyer...I've decided it's been too long since I showed you what's been happening in the old homestead...and I need your help making some decisions.

First the photos...and sorry  in advance for the basic upload- I've been using google documents while I wait for either publisher or keyote and surprise, it's not working today- suckage.

Anyhoo...here's the narrow/small/uneven shots of my house...

Ok...question number one.

The pinky/orangy chairs in the living room...I replaced the rosewood ones that were there before with these (they used to be in the master)...

I love them as they are but that vintage velvet has seen better days so...I'd love to re-upholster in faux fur...like this:

Yes/no?
Any other ideas?

Next...a console table is being added behind me sofa.

I've purchased this:

and am having it gold leafed...just you wait- it's going to be SO pretty.
{Thanks to Meredith for sourcing out this beauty and for the gold leaf idea- brilliant!}

Question- since it's behind my sofa and in the middle of the room, would you put a pair of lamps on it or no?

Moving on...the new/vintage mirrors in the hallway.

Leave as is or paint and if so, what colour?

And since we're on the topic of the foyer...I need lighting advice.

I bought these vintage black and white beauties that I can easily have made into pendants..

But...I'm a little worried that there will be too much black and white so alternatively, I'll use them in the downstairs hallway and get one of these for the foyer...

In a perfect world, I'd get more than one of these chandy goddesses but I do have a child to put through university in T- 6 months (PS- holys shit) so one would be my limit and even that would have to wait for a while.

Would love to hear your thoughts on above.

Thank you/luv you!

Oh and one more thing...I have to show you a picture of Jenny's painting in it's new home...

more photos of my bedroom/upsairs next week...

Also coming up soon, photos of a little/giant curtain transformation happening as we speak in the living room...think pink and gold people;)

  1. OMG!!! So much to say. So in love with everything. I would leave the mirrors just the way they are. And use the black and white pendants upstairs, too much b/w but they will be incredible!! And lamps could be very pretty on the console, help separate the space. And your bedroom is total insanity of gorgeousness.

  2. Oh and reupholstering in fur sounds heavenly if they don't get used, but if they get used I feel like the fur would end up sort of matted and icky.

  3. love the tour - great details my lovey!

  4. Love it all Christine!!!

    To the fur...YES!

To the light, well, this is when I say education is overrated. :P

Adore the wallpaper you have too, it is so fun!!!

    When is the party? xx

  5. Let me tell ya... your house is absolutely amazing. You are fabulous at layering different textures and fabrics. I love the mirror as it is. So beautiful! And heck yeah to the fur!!

  6. Leave the mirror as is....HELL yes to the fur...I adore the lamps in there home right now! As far as a pair behind the sofa I am dealing with that dilemma right now to so I would love to hear what you find out! AMAZING Space

  7. Wow Christine an awful lot of gorgeousness here!! OK first love how everything is arragned so beautifully. A+ for that. Love that orange/pinky velvet so much, the furry thing is fun but not nearly as classic and sophisticated as that yummy colored velvet, just my humble opinion. Depends if you want something more fun and lively and something with more personality.
Don't touch the mirrors...perfect as they are! The console done in gold leaf-perfection!
The painting in its new home- heavenly.
    Well done my friend:)

  8. you have such a pretty home, Christine! I love the gold leaf idea, can't wait to see it. I always love lamps on a sofa table, if you can hide the cords :) I love fur, but the shedding drives me crazy.... The pendant is tres chichi... if only our decorating fund could be a large as those school ones, huh?! xo

  9. I'm keeping my trap shut b/c you need NO help Christine. Your home is out of a dreamland. I'm dying.

  10. I say definitely go with the faux fur chair idea. I love it!

  11. God, I love your home! I say yes to the faux fur, yes to lamps behind the sofa... and from that photo, I think the mirror in the hall looks great just the way it is!

I'm dying for more home photos from you. :)

  12. Wow! Your living room looks fantastic! The faux fur would be so fun! You have such great taste. I am sure that whatever you decide on will look amazing.

  13. Ok wow, so much goodness here. I would not put lamps on the console, I think that would block the view and tablescape thing would be pretty. The vintage mirrors in the hall, I'm thinking black, just solid black. I'm loving black on black on black lately and sitting behind those chairs, awesomeness. I would totally hang those black and white pendants as is. I'm working on decorating my home office now with tons of black and white with pops of soft pink. No such thing as too much black and white! I'm very excited to see the upstairs!

  14. You have such a beautiful home! I would be inspired everyday living there!

  15. those pics are great! 1. Fur, yes 2. Lights on console-yes if you can plug them in without running a cord 1/2 way accross the room 3. Mirrors-gorg the way they are 4. I like the lamps you have on that table, but perhaps the ceiling fixture paired with wall sconces??

  16. Your home is beautiful! So many lovely details. I am in love with your gray sofa, your tufted chairs, ottoman, settee, rug, well everything!

You did a great job with your home, looking forward to see more! I think it's absolutely alright to put two table lamps on your console table in the middle of the room. I have been wanting to do that for a while myself!

  17. So fun to see these little peaks!

    In my opinion:

    - yes to the fur upholstery
    - leave the mirrors as they are
    - yes to lamps on the gold-leafed console, but maybe lucite or something not too heavy
    - I actually think the black and white lamps/pendants would be fine in the hallway, and they're rad.

    Hmmm....am I forgetting anything?

    :)

Can't wait to see what you decide!

  19. Wow you have such a beautiful home!! I love how much light you have in it, too. Gorgeous, just gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  20. You have to go for the crystal & brass light fixture!!! Too Gorgeous!!! As for the velvet chairs, I love them in that pink velvet. Maybe reupholster in similar velvet if they really need it. The fur is fun, but may be kind of messy looking afer awhile. The mirrors are great as is. But whatever you do, I'm sure it will be fabulous!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I just love your house. I love your style. I think I would leave that chair the pinky velvet...yum, and add a fur pillow instead. Adore!!!

Can't wait to see those curtains!!!

  22. Your home is incredible! I love the fur, would definitely go for a pair of lamps, Leave the mirror, but let's be honest, you need NO help.

  23. Christine, your home is perfection in every way and I'm not going to give you advice...I want to see what you come up with to inspire ME. Sorry for being selfish:) Kidding aside your home is dreamy!!

  24. Gorgeous! The simple console table will look fabulous in gold leaf - I've been wanting to recover one in gold/silver grasscloth. One day. Have a great day Christine!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I am loving the changes! As for lamps on the console, wait until the console is in and see what you think. That Ikea hack will be fabulous! I say leave that mirror alone! Gorgeous!
Yes, recover the chairs - that fur is so you! If I did that my family would check me in....

I think those "whatever they are" would make fabulous pendants! But I am partial to black and white!

Just waiting to see that kitchen, ehem...

  27. OMGosh truly it all looks SO fabulous !! I don't even know where to begin...the chair would look great in faux fur and I can't wait to see the gold leafed console...thats such a great idea !

  28. Holy cow, I LOVE the "Cousin It" chair! I want one!

  29. Yes to the faux fur chairs, no to the pair of lamps on the console (so predictable..). Put some height on the console maybe with one lamp and arrange a pile of books on the other side along with some other mixed accessories. It needn't be totally symmetrical.
Your home is fabulous and quirky and stylish and interesting! Love it

  30. Here is what I have learned from this post. That 1) I am in no position to offer you any advice/opinions on your home, because it's like 1000x more amazing than anything I could ever come up with on my own, so...you're on your own there. And 2) I need ostrich wallpaper in my life, stat.

Seriously though, C, un-freaking-believably beautiful home.

  31. Is it okay that I kind of think you are a decorating god/genius and worship you? Oh...no?? Um, then just disregard that question...and we will just go with HOLY SHIZTERS! It has definitely been too long since we have had the pleasure of drooling like crazy over your gorgeous abode...really, where do you come up with all these insanely great ideas???? When I win the lottery, I am flying you down to do my house, deal? (c:

  32. gorgeousness everywhere & THANK YOU for sharing! it really does look incredible. i love the mirrors as is, i think the pink velvet chairs are incredible & would probably reupholster in something similar, love the gold sparkley chandelier, and jenny's painting is insane.

  33. Is this where glammy girly girls go when they die? Good earth, your house is ridiculous gorgeous. It is impossible to give my opinion when clearly yours is far superior. I'll just say I would absolutely leave the mirrors as-is, no question...I wouldn't do lamps on the console (good choice, btw), if you want height go glass so as not to obstruct. I can't weigh in on the fur chairs, I like the velvet and you will love whatever you do so there. Can't wait to see more of your bedroom, the wood detailing rocks.

  35. SOOOOO so much prettiness - I want more! Your house is gorgeous Christine, I love that you can have this high end vibe with kids. I say absolutely on the fur (as long as it doesn't get kind of matted and grungy with use) and wait for the sofa table to be in the space before you decide on the lighting. You may feel you want the separation - and you may not! Now get me some more pics! :)

  37. Your home is all kinds of gorgeous Christine! Love the ostrich wallpaper and the new fabulous antique mirror and the peek in your master looks amazing too! Yes to the fur; love the lamps as they are - they're bases are too lovely to turn into pendants! Love the chandelier too! xx

  38. Oooooh, sista! It's looking amazing indeed! So let's go down the list... 1. luuuurve the faux fur re-upholstery choice. Gonna do something similar in my home, so of course, I love. 2. yes, for lamps on console. Just keep them small scale. 3. DO NOT PAINT those mirrors! May a little small in scale for that space though. Maybe at least hang? Don't know. 4. YES! on hanging those b/w fixtures as pendants. LOVE!!!!! Those are my opinions. Take or leave them. ( = No matter what, it will be amazing for sure!!!!

  39. your place is gorgeous... love everything about it from the chairs, the sofa and the art work... you have a great sense of style!

  40. I say YES to everything! Your house is amazing! The sneak peek of the bedroom looks stunning and I'm dying to see your new drapes up in the living room! GORGEOUS!

  41. Holy crap, you live there? Or is this really some fancy hotel? :)

    1) Personally, I'd say no to hairy chairs. It might be cool now, but they kind of weird me out for family and friends. Just my opinion! :)

    2) I think lamps on the console behind the table would be nice. Or a single lamp with a terranium or some other sort of visual interest.

    3) It would be neat to have that vintage mirror painted a bright color, like red or green!

Beautiful place. Totally your style :D

  42. Oh yum yum yum!!! I love seeing more shots of your house! I actually like the pink velvet, but maybe the pic doesn't fully show the wear. The gold console will be fab...I like a double lamp, but not having a wide angle shot of the room, it's hard to tell. And as for the mirror, you know Jill would go for a punchy, in your face color and it would be amazing. Maybe start small and give it a little rub n buff.

  43. So gorgeous, Christine! I adore everything! Love, love, love your striped rug too! xo

  45. Yay! Posts about your home are my favorite! Your place is beyond amazing. All of your ideas are fab...so fab that it's hard to ever help in your decision making as I always like it all! Basically, I don't think there any wrong options when it comes to your taste!

    ReplyDelete
  46. phew. gorgeous little sneak peak! I agree with a lot of the above - chandy yes, mirrors, keep as is. For the console table...I would go without lamps, but that's just my own opinion (I would be worried about knocking them over...I know...sounds stupid...but I also think it's a bit narrow (widthwise, not depth wise)??). Whatever you do I'm sure will look fab!

  47. I am in love with faux fur right now, so a big yay for recovering an entire chair in it... just bought two pillows in it. LOVING!! xo Rosa

  50. YIKES...so much to comment on. first off, I LOVE YOUR HOME, would move right in, LOVE! OK, no on the fur, keep it simple on the chairs, yes on two lamps on console (love that look), don't touch the vintage item, and love the idea of the light fixtures, although that chandy in the image is on the very tippy top of my own wish list!xx

  53. you have an incredibly inspiring home..i am always in awe! one thing about wanting to reupholster the vintage chair in fur..some furs shed ridiculously so just keep that in mind when choosing. but to be honest, i like the pink velvet..what if you changed it to a black velvet instead? And i love the lamps on the console..and anything gold leafed is a winner in my book :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Just...WOW!!!!! So much inspired me here.

I'm in agreement with most of the commenters:

    1) Fur chair - absolutely
    2) Two console lamps - yes, at least try it
    3) Leave mirrors as-is
    4) I don't think there can ever be too much B+W

and by the way, the new fixture is beyond gorgeous.

gold console- amazing! no lamps. pretty vignette, please.

and call me cray cray but I would paint the mirrors pale pink. It would tie into the art and look smashing behind those chairs.
