Fall is here, and with the changing of the seasons it’s a good idea to change the look of your outdoor space. There are so many things you can do that it’s almost hard to know where to start! But today, we’re taking some of the hassle out of it. We’re going to help get your creative juices flowing so you can have an outdoor space perfectly decorated for fall. Here are 4 ideas to get you started:

Hang Curtains

Fall means cooler temperatures and with that the winds often pick up. How do you combat this out on the patio? You create a barrier. Using a curtain to shield part of your outdoor room is a great way to both add a stylish decoration and keep the environment comfortable, shielding you from the cool weather and breezes that blow through. They can easily be hung from a pergola, patio overhang, or a gazebo area and it’s an opportunity to reuse something from inside the home. If those drapes in the living room just don’t look right anymore, take them outside – you’ll be surprised how they can spruce up the outdoor space!

Use What Nature Gives You

When people think of fall, one of the first things they think of is nature. You’ve got leaves changing colors, nuts falling to the ground, and a whole host of other offerings. So why spend a lot of money when you can make a design with what nature gives you? With a little creativity, you can create a unique look for virtually nothing. Colorful leaves can be used to decorate a holiday wreath; stripped tree branches and nuts can help make a beautiful table setting; and an arrangement of pumpkins always works with the fall theme (think lining the sides of a walkway or placing mini pumpkins on a multi-prong candleholder).

Seasonal Greenery

Your warm weather plants and flowers may be gone, but that doesn’t mean your outdoor area has to be devoid of vegetation through the fall. There are many plants that look great in the cooler weather, like kale, sage, verbena, and white clover, meaning you can still keep a splash of color on your patio. If you’ve never tried container gardening, fall is prime time to do so – when winter rolls around and you get freezing temperatures, just bring your plants inside and let them continue to thrive!

Front Porch Display

My mother would make a display for our front porch every fall and she always got compliments on it. This is another project you can do for very little cost, using stuff you probably have around your house. Think of objects you associate with fall – rakes and brooms, pumpkins, scarecrows (easily constructed with a sturdy rod and old clothes), bales of hay (you might not have hay around the home, but it’s available at any animal feed store) and create an arrangement with them. A front porch display that’s well thought out gives the house a festive look and makes a great way to welcome guests into the home.
