3 Loves of the Day

Three things I want to show you today...love all of them.

First, I'm finding myself very inspired by the softly ethereal, yet vigorously edgy, combo of lavender and blue.

Loving.

And you know what else my heart is bursting over?

This...

{sorry for the pixilation- early morning iphone}

That would be the new chandelier I practically stole...turns out most suburbanites don't share my love of brass...I found this gorgeousness...

in a sea of chrome, nickel and iron...sure it had ugly shades and chandelier bulbs but after pitching those, I ended up with a stunning fixture for literally 1/4 of the price it was originally listed at...yup...I took her home for $300!

The sales guy seemed dumfounded that I wanted it at all...silly, silly man.

Colour me very happy.

And you know what else is making me a little giddy....this...

She used to look like this...

But not even really...the metal wasn't shiny and chrome...it was more like a dull pewter.

Anyhoo...now it's gold and beauteous.
It took yours truly all day and many coats of brushed on artist's gold but the result is truly so much better than I even hoped...the finish almost looks like gold leafing and it's elevated the light to something beaucoup glamorous...adore.

So there you have it...three loves of the day.

What's striking your fancy this rainy Thursday?

  8. That first picture is AMAZING. The art, the sofa...And I love what you've done with that lamp! That artist's gold looks great. I've been searching for a gold paint that doesn't make things look like cheap Christmas decorations.

  9. Hooray for you! Two great scores.

I think it will take awhile for brass to find its way to the masses. I'm always surprised that many of my clients still think of it as totally 80's.

  12. LOVE the new chandy!!! The round bulbs are fab.

Right now, I am loving the littlest mercury owl from west elm (http://www.westelm.com/products/mercury-owls-c461/?pkey=e%7Cowl%7C15%7Cbest%7C0%7C1%7C24%7C%7C1&cm_src=PRODUCTSEARCH||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_-NoMerchRules-_-) and when I showed it to my mom, she was like 'isn't mercury dangerous'? I might have face-palmed.

  18. What! That floor lamp looks marvelous. So I just picked up an amazing vintage brass etagere at Salvation Army. Hello?? How can people just throw this goodness to the curb?

I used to have raging self-doubt, but now when somebody throws me the side eye while I'm buying something, I consider it supreme validation.

  19. I'm intrigued by the lavender/navy combo - I really love it. Your chandy is fabulous as is the floor lamp - I wish I could find a floor lamp like that. I was at a friend's house the other day and she had complained about her hideous chanelier in the dining room - it was brass awesomeness - just needed a little updating.
