The Dream House Diaires #10...The Dark Side

I hadn't intended to make this a...

...but it's morphed into that as I write so for the second time this week, I seem to be thinking of goodness I'd love to use in the new house.

Today, I'm talking marble.

I've long time been a fan of the stuff..have some gorgeous white stone in my kitchen and wouldn't consider any other surface for #projectdreamhouse.

Lately though, my thoughts of Carrara or Calacatta have been one upped by dreams of this...

...aka Austral Gold.

Also lusting after the more common but equally gorgeous...

...Nero Marquina.

Though I'll probably stick to something blanco in the kitchen, I'm most definitely going to plaster some of this dark goodness in a bathroom and perhaps on a fireplace or two...LOVING it in a honed finish.

I find it so strikingly dramatic and modern...

Of course, there's always the black and white marble mix for the floors to also consider...I'm thinking something like this MUST happen in the foyer...

Glorious.

And on a smaller scale, I'd love to incorporate this table pretty...

...for the dining room...holy hell I love that table.

And you?

Are you all about the softer marble varieties or have you also fallen a bit for their darker cousins?

  1. black marble is my favorite and think you owe it to yourself to consider it for your kitchen. white marble can be so blah. that black and gold number is ridiculousness. i say ditch the white and go for the black.

  2. The use of the black slab as a backsplash is nice & unexpected with the use of white marble on the counters! SOme of the b&w images for foyer inspiration are to die for. My post today was on Popham Designs they make tile that is amazing & graphic, you may like some of that action too! {www.thepinkzipper.blogspot.ca}

  3. We were going to do a honed black nero marquina in one of our bathrooms - was going to look fabulous!!!, however, once we started playing around with a sample we realized that it wasn't going to be the choice for us. We have white marble in our house, and fine w/ the etching. Etching on black marble is a whole other story. When it etches, it etches in white, and in my opinion, looks pretty worn. Get a sample and put a drop of lemon or orange juice on it and you'll see what I mean. Maybe it will not bother you. Just thought I'd point that out.

  4. Ah Christine, you always make me see things so differently! If you had asked me 5 minutes ago about black marble I would've been like "meh", but now...you're so right, gorgeous to the MAX!!! That #3 example of b&w floors is stunning...if that was my foyer, people might find me with my cheek on the ground petting it. (c; Have a happy weekend, love!

  5. I love this black marble...and remember it hides everything! white marble absorbs everything and doesn't wear as well....don't dismiss it!!

  16. I love the idea of black marble! But...I don't know, it sort of begins to read 80s to me when used outside of the kitchen and maybe patterned flooring. I'm always risk-averse when it comes to stuff I won't be able to change, so I would probably stick with accessories like that gorgeous coffee table and stick with white marble on anything attached to my house. That said, I know you'll make it look fab!!
