Project Kitchen Gorgeous and the Closet Doors

I was stuck in bed all day with the some kind of sickness yesterday and am still feeling rather gross so a short and sweet post today.

If you have been following along on Twitter, Meredith and I have been busy exchanging tweets about the kitchen reno and we've hashtaged the discussions #projectkitchengorgeous.
If you'd like to follow along with our design chat, that's where you'll find us.

For now, I promised an update on the marble selection process so here's a little look at what I say on Saturday.

I've decided to keep the selection a secret for now but I can tell you that one of these 5 selections is going to make it's way into my kitchen.

Any guesses?

After our trip to the marble store, we headed to Lee Valley to pick up my closet door knockers.

Ta da...

Roar.

Sunday Style - Charlotte Hosten

Charlotte Hosten

I discovered this Montreal based jewelry designer just yesterday and literally could not wait to show you.

Charlotte Hosten

Charlotte Hosten creates jewelry and accessories that are quite simply, pieces of art.
Like sculptures, her necklaces are truly a statement in beauty and grace.

Charlotte Hosten

Made of vintage treasures, trinkets from the customers own collection, or custom made pieces, her necklaces evoke a sense of feminine strength and character.

Charlotte Hosten

Quite simply one of kind, Charlotte Hosten is a designer whose work I am utterly charmed by.

A preview of her sculptural beauties.

Saturday Shopping - ModCloth and Marble

I'm going shopping today- taking the hubster to see the marble that's been selected for the kitchen.
It turns out that if we want said marble, some other things are going to have to take a hike...stupid budget.
Expensive marble = no end chairs or wine fridge.
Knowing this, I want to make sure we absolutely cannot live without the marble.

Just so you have an idea of the higher and lower options...here is an example of each type I found online.

High

Low

You see my dilemma.

I'll be back later today with pictures of all of the choices, and I'd love to hear what your thoughts on them are.

Friday Fabrics - Cecil Beaton

In the few days before the Oscar's hit the airwaves, I thought it appropriate to feature a fabric collection that speaks to the glamour and nostalgia of the event.

A creative career in fashion design and photography that spanned some 60 years.
Always at the forefront of design, his designs have seen him awarded Oscars and wide acclaim.

Dressing starlets and Hollywood's fashion elite, Beaton had a keen eye for all things glamorous.
A photo of the legendary Audrey Hepburn wearing a hat designed by this master of style, apptly illustrates his chic aesthetic.

Beaton's original drawings were commissioned by the house of Zika Ascher, for his contemporary fabrics collection.
This fabric house was a post war leader is couture textiles and was seen on catwalks from Belengiaga to Givenchy to Lanvin to Yves St Laurent.
Ascher Fabrics was known for commissioning cutting edge artists to create collections and patterns for their company to print.
Their collaboration with Beaton was wildly successful and is still celebrated today.

With a passion for the work of Beaton, a UK fabric company is now printing his original designs.

Beaudesert Fabrics has taken the original sketches, inspired by 1950s fashion drawings, and reinterpreted them for fabric and wallpaper.
The colours, repeats, etc. have been created from scratch and the end result is a compilation of Beaton inspired couture prints.
According to Beaudesert, this collection is " largely figurative...and is in Beaton's highly evocative brush-drawn style."

A preview of these amazingly bold and chic prints.

As relevant today as the day he created them, Beaton's designs are feminine and bold.
The patterns evoke a feeling of old Hollywood glamour that would certainly make any space feel wonderfully chic.
And ps, Beaton Beauties in a dressing room- heaven.
