Lighting

I am currently OBSESSED with lighting.
This whole kitchen renovation thing has got me a little crazy in the pants.
And at the moment, I am living, breathing, and existing for the sole purpose of hunting down the perfect fixtures for my new kitchen.

My house is designed so that our one and only dining area is the kitchen so for me, all stops must be pulled out in creating the perfect chandy/pendant story.
I want the chosen fixtures to convey romance, comfort, family, elegance, whimsy, and chic style...surely you see the problem here.

Essentially, I want the lights to rock the crap out of the kitchen because it's always the rooms that have such lighting, that I most admire.
You know the ones....lighting that is in perfect juxtaposition to the rest of the space...lighting that your eye just bounces to...that's what I want.

Really, I'm just lusting after exceptionally cool lights and finding said lighting nirvana would be a much easier task if budget wasn't an issue but darn nation it is, so I continue to look....as does the amazing Meredith Heron, who is literally sending me email choices every day...thank GOD for her...I'd be loosing my mind completely if she wasn't driving this kitchen train.

In the meantime, here are some of my favourite examples of chandeliers/pendants that have real panache...those that mix styles with their furniture counterparts and help make the space they're in, just plain yummy.

I love lighting that just stands out from its surroundings.
So my lovelies, if you were redoing your kitchen and wanted a pair of something to hang alongside this...

keeping in mind that that they would need to be both fabulous and VERY reasonably priced....what would you pick?

In my dream world, I'd take a pair of these vintage beauties used by Massucco Warner.

Thoughts?

Wonderful examples. I especially love the chandeliers. I love the (I believe Circa) pendants in Nicole at sketch24's kitchen but you are clearly leaning toward something less tailored. I always find lighting difficult - so much to choose from!!

Well first of all, I share this crazy lighting obsession with you. I think every single room should have an amazing fixture to finish it. The pictures you collected are just perfection. This is only idea right now, but they might not provide the juxtaposition you are looking for:

But it does tell a nice story with your chandy
Hope it helps a little! xo

Lighting is so difficult!! I always love antique crystal chandeliers-- especially when doing a more modern look- it adds a nice contrast and softens the look a lot (to me)....looking forward to seeing what you choose! Take care, Caroline

I love the idea of pairing two amazing fixtures together. My fav would have to be #5, kindof like a seashell chandelier. Can not wait to see what you pick!

I feel like you ripped this post from the diary in my head! I am obsessed (basically since I started blogging) with lighting. I really believe it can make or break the design. Every image you feature is perfection; I love when at first glance you think, "hey, that doesn't go in that room" but then IT DOES! I don't have any suggestions, but I have complete confidence that whatever you choose will be spectacular.

I love the simplicity and elegance of image 11, but they are all so gorgeous. And no suggestions to offer. Good luck on finding the perfect one.

i think lighting should make a statement, especially in the dining and kitchen. I seriously love all of your choices, and that last one..AHHH!

Beautiful choices! Fabulous and budget friendly? Maybe a second-hand shop? Not sure... Best of luck with the search!

I agree that all rooms should have amazing lighting. Even better when you can incorporate a "knock your socks off" pendant/chandelier! I love all the pics you have posted. Good luck on the hunt...it can be daunting finding a piece you love. I always seem to come across stuff I love love when I am not looking for it. There in lies a problem.

Fabulous selection of images and WOW that vintage Massucco Warner turquoise chandelier is drop dead gorgeous! It'll be in my dreams now too! Good luck, I know whatever you decide is going to be stunning!

Love all those gorgeous chandeliers...
but I'm into the first one,
but it really depends on the design style you're going for:)

Yes I would take a pair of those as well! Wow that is just a beautiful chandelier. Have you checked out Cyan designs or currey and co? They seem to always have some stunning lighting.

I literally gasped when I saw that yellow chandy. So unique and gorgeous!!

Yes, unfortunately budget options are limited. I would hound estate sales if I were you.

All so beautiful! How to choose? I love the first one and the second even though it's a totally different look really caught my eye. Keep us posted!

Oh My gosh....this was MEEEE! I bought and returned about 7 different pendants for my island when we were doing our kitchen. I started with some george nelson pendants and ended up with old pieces of iron swinging from my ceiling. I kept thinking to myself....light fixtures aren't permanent... however put up something you think you wont get sick of.
Can't wait to see what you pick!

Guh. Lighting is so amazing. I started to make a list of the ones I loved most to share in my comment, but frankly there were too many. And that blue one at the bottom is seriously amazing.

My problem is that I love everything... Clothing (including shoes, purses, jewelry...) home decor, traveling, going out with friends... If only I had just one passion I could have it all ;)

Ya KNOW I found the perfect two vintage fixtures for you. Sadly, nothing cheap & cheerful will compare.

BUT they are a ridiculously great price for what they are. What can we sell in your house?

Oh, i so know what you mean about obsessing over lighting! These are all very very beautiful! XX

I'm also deep, deep in lighting land right now and know exactly what you mean about having an intense craving for just the right thing. I'm shocked by how expensive traditional chandeliers are, especially if you want anything on the larger side of things. Good luck with the hunt and I'm looking forward to seeing what you find.

Great pics, I understand your dilemma, having a budget really does squash a lot of fantastic plans.
We are designing our dream house & my hubby is an electrician so he is nervous about our lighting choices as he feels he will be harshly judged, I think he might be right!!

Lighting can be so much fun to look at and buy BUT the prices - yikes. I just popped into a store the other day and found a chandelier with clusters of crystal globes - FELL IN LOVE but am renting and can't be bothered to spend the $1200 price tag! Sigh....but you will find something smashing for sure. My favourite photo is the H&H photo of the lofty rustic library/dining room with the chandelier, to die for!

Must file this away in my Tumblr file!
